To stay or not to stay, that was the question

The UK's EU Exit - Victory or Disaster?

Hello fellow change makers!

Yesterday politics shifted forever in Europe when it was announced that UK citizens voted Britain and Northern Ireland out of the European Union.

Millions of people in the UK and Europe are shocked by this outcome, emotions are running high, people are scared about what this will mean, and to most in Britain it feels a lot like losing a close friend.

A union of countries for peace and prosperity was such a wonderful idea, and this sadness and fear is also felt by many of the people who voted to leave - so why did they do it?

The majority of people who voted to leave were the older generations who can remember a time before the EU, and the poorest areas of the UK where, while being in the EU, their lives have continued to be affected by greater unemployment, benefit cuts, and in some cases serious poverty with food banks for food.

The voices of these people have been completely ignored as austerity measures have increased across the UK, and the consequence is that 51.9% voted leave.

So why are the older generations and poorest communities concerned about the future of the the UK within the EU? Is it because they are all stupid with a limited island mentality as some suggest?

It is obvious that the system is crashing down all over Europe, and this Brexit vote is just one further indication of that. The refugee crisis, the increasing popularity of right-wing politicians, the increase in corporate, political and military interference in countries worldwide (and in people's lives through internet surveillance), and the plan quietly announced last year by the USA to send vast amounts of troops into Europe are all pre-seismic signals for the huge earthquake that is coming.

Historically, when the system crashes, we end up with police-state fascism and war, and as the news media works harder than ever at making Putin and Muslims the world's greatest enemies, they ignore the fact that our own leaders should in no way be jealous of Putin's or extreme Islam's obvious lunacy.

Just because people voted out does not mean they support right-wing politicians, UKIP, Farage or any of those muppets. A vote out of the EU was a vote against the advice of all politicians, CEOs, economists and private bankers.

The news media in the run up to the election were disgraceful, concentrating on border control and economic collapse; now, in the aftermath of the UK's decision, the media relentlessly continues to spread fear, while the EU itself is threatening rather than helping the UK with this transition.

A referendum alone will not change the world, but just like Greece, many ordinary people decided to bravely make a stand for democracy and for justice, for our air, water and the earth under our feet, for decent human rights and decent working conditions - we are not just the EU; we are human beings and we are being treated like expendable commodities. Human extinction is the current path - it must not end here.
